Moments before a life changing double mastectomy, Deborah Cohan, flanked by her surgical and anesthesia teams, hosted a six minute dance party to celebrate life. Cohan, a gynaecologist and mother-of-two, filmed the video because she wanted to galvanise other people into dancing and making the most of their lives.
She posted the video her journal “Deborah’s Healing Journey,” which is hosted on caringbridge.com. In the post, she told visitors “I have visions of a healing video montage. Nothing brings me greater joy than catalysing others to dance, move, be in their bodies. Are you with me people.”
The video, set to Beyonce’s “Get Me Bodied,” was shot at the Mt. Zion Hospital in San Francisco. Cohan said she hoped to transform “the solemn space of a hospital into a vibrant healing ward.”
