DHS personnel are required to pickup trash from the yard, but not allowed to become physical with the detainees. A special unit must be called in if attacked.

All cameras and recording devices are prohibited.

Future plans include construction of a hair salon, day care and recreational center.

Full medical care is provided free of charge as well as other personal amenities for daily life.

The FLETC’s FY89 appropriation contained funds and authorization for the FLETC to purchase and renovate the former Artesia Christian College in Artesia, New Mexico, and operate it as a training center. The FLETC is situated on 220 acres in the northwest section of the City of Artesia. When purchased in June 1989, there were seven major buildings containing approximately 94,690 square feet.

Questions for DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson:

If a Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) is being used for an illegal alien compound …

  1. How many other DHS facilities are being used to house illegals?
  2. What about resources, both money and personnel, being used or shifting?
  3. Does this decrease training of federal law enforcement personnel?
