ISIS Supporting Hacker Group Claims Responsibility For Cyber Attacks On PlayStation And Vatican Websites

Sunday was a big day for the ISIS-supporting hacker group, “Lizard Squad.”

Yesterday they claimed responsibility for a cyber attack on Sony’s PlayStation Network, and tweeted a bomb threat to American Airlines, saying that explosives were on board the flight carrying Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley.  They also claim to have taken down the Vatican Website.

The PlayStation and the Vatican websites were back online on Monday following the cyber attacks that took them down over the weekend.

CNBC reported:

Sony said on its PlayStation blog that the network had been taken down by a denial-of-service-style attack, which overwhelmed the system with traffic but did not intrude into the network or access information of its 53 million users.
Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said it was investigating the bomb threat that caused an American Airlines flight to be diverted.
