Senator Chris Murphy, Jake Tapper and the Unsung Villains of GruberGate

In a tweet Saturday morning, Senator Chris Murphy, D-Conn. demonstrated his party’s contempt for their voters by attempting to shame reporters who are covering the ObamaCare scandal that has come to be known as “GruberGate.”

Said Murphy via Twitchy:

CNN reporter Jake Tapper, one of the few national reporters covering the scandal, was quick to respond:

In the Alinsky-trained, ends-justify-the-means world that many Democrats live in, “this guy Gruber” really is no longer relevant.  He was hired to help craft ObamaCare because his particular skill set enabled him to write a “tortured” and convoluted health care bill that could pass muster with the CBO and be politically feasible for Democrats to vote for. ObamaCare required subterfuge and lack of transparency in order to pass, even as the president was bragging that his was the most transparent administration in American history. Deception is not the exception in Obama’s world, it is the rule. Now that the unpopular health care law has been enacted, Gruber’s ideas are no longer “relevant” – nor are they particularly appreciated.

The unsung villains in all this are the very people Senator Murphy tried to shame with his tweet.

Not all of them, obviously, as reporters like Jake Tapper (CNN), Major Garrett (CBS), Jonathan Karl (ABC) demonstrate time and time again.

But the media as a whole have been so in the tank for this president and his agenda, that not only did they not challenge obvious lies, they in some cases suppressed the truth from being reported.

Melissa Francis, host of the Fox Business Network’s “Money with Melissa Francis” revealed on Friday that she was chastised for her reporting on Obamacare during her time at CNBC. She said that the administration relied on people’s (read Democrats) “lack of economic understanding” to help pass ObamaCare and also the liberal media to help cover up the truth.”

She rattled off a list of national news organizations that have not yet covered GruberGate: “So far NBC, ABC, the LA Times, The Associated Press and others have been only too happy to comply. Those outlets have not even mentioned the video evidence from Jonathan Gruber,” Francis exclaimed.

“When I was at CNBC, I pointed out to my viewers that the math of Obamacare simply didn’t work. Not the politics by the way, just the basic math. And when I did that, I was silenced. I said on the air, that you couldn’t add millions of people to the system and force insurance companies to cover their preexisting conditions without raising the price on everyone else. I pointed out that it couldn’t possibly be true that if you like your plan you can keep it. That was a lie, and in fact, millions of people had their insurance canceled. As a result of what I said at CNBC, I was called into management where I was told, that I was quote, ‘disrespecting the office of the president’ by telling, what turned out to be the absolute truth” she stated.

With all due respect to Senator Murphy, the saddest aspect of the entire ObamaCare debacle, is that good political journalists either couldn’t or wouldn’t report the truth when it mattered.
