San Diego Police Chasing Down Violent Suspects

San Diego Police Chasing Down Violent Suspects

Several disturbing reports about sexual assault and violent crime dominated headlines early this week in San Diego. Police officers are chasing down and catching several suspects.

A search is still in progress for a suspect who allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl who was either released or managed to escape after 15-20 minutes. ABC 10 News reported that the man wore a black mask and pulled out a handgun to abduct the girl. The victim was taken to the hospital after running to a nearby gas station for help. Police were still looking for the assailant in the area on Tuesday, according to the news account.

In addition, late Monday evening, a resident of the East Village area of San Diego called 911 for help after finding a 51-year-old man unconscious. The man, believed to be homeless, was rushed to the hospital where he later died. According to the ABC 10 News report, San Diego police Lt. Manuel Del Toro stated that the man showed signs of “some visible physical trauma.” Police were investigating the death as suspicious on Tuesday.

Finally, San Diego police caught one suspect who had been at large, according to a Union-Tribune report. The man who had escaped police custody Monday afternoon was back in custody as of Tuesday morning. He had escaped during booking into the San Diego jail while in handcuffs. He had been brought in on suspicion of robbery and now faces an additional charge in relation to his escape.

San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s recently released budget proposal would boost funding to public safety. On release of the buget, Faulconer pointed to putting “dollars back into the police department” as one focus of his plan.
