Report: 49ers, Crabtree Far Apart on Contract Negotiations

San Francisco 49ers and wide receiver Michael Crabtree, whom Seattle’s Richard Sherman called “sorry” and “mediocre” after last year’s NFC title game, are wide apart on contract negotiations.

“We’re constantly working with our guys that are becoming free agents to see what it’s going to take to extend them,” Baalke told the San Francisco Chronicle. “Michael’s no different. He’s a darn good football player. A guy that we drafted. And as everyone in this room knows, we are always going to try to keep our own guys rather than go out in free agency and pay guys that haven’t invested themselves in this place like these guys have.”

The 49ers will extend Kaepernick, assuming he is cleared of wrongdoing in a pending investigation in which a woman may have claimed that she was sexually assaulted, and also have Aldon Smith, who was arrested after saying that he had a bomb at LAX, lineman Mike Iupati, and Crabtree they are thinking about extending.

In Crabtree’s case, he is set to hit free agency in 2015.

As the Chronicle notes, negotiations with Crabtree’s camp may be rocky, as he is still represented by Eugene Parker, who had him holdout for 71 days while negotiating his rookie contract.
