L.A. to Screen Ice Cream Vendors for Sex Offenses

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to explore regulations that would screen ice cream vendors for criminal records for violations “such as molestation, sex offenses, pornography or abuse,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

Because ice cream truck vendors drive to areas where children typically play, the Board of Supervisors says, they must be checked for criminal offenses that could place kids at risk.

Supervisor Don Knabe, who sponsored the motion, told the Times: “We could be unknowingly permitting dangerous individuals to come into contact with innocent children.” Such Screening is already required in L.A. for business owners applying for licenses to deal in firearms, explosives, and adult entertainment.
