California Has America's Most Expensive Zip Code: Find Out Where

Where is the nation’s priciest ZIP code? Hint: it is 45 minutes south of San Francisco and less than 20 minutes to the headquarters of Facebook, Google and most of the nation’s major tech companies in Silicon Valley.

Atherton, California residents include the likes of HP CEO Meg Whitman and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, who own mansions in the 94027 ZIP code, where the median home price is upwards of $9.44 million–with that number growing at approximately 40% increments each year–according to the San Francisco Chronicle’s website, sfgate.com.

Atherton is drawing a great deal of attention from international buyers too, specifically Chinese investors who most often buy with cash and without even seeing the property. One San Francisco realtor recently sold a mansion in Atherton to a Chinese buyer for $14 million in just 72 hours, according to sfgate.com.

Currently, the least expensive home one can buy in the Atherton region is a modestly-sized 1,700 square foot ranch with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, priced at $1.695 million. In 1998, that same home sold for $480K.
