CA City Clerk Accused of Tweeting Emails Vitriolic Resignation

Kim Lehmkuhl, the Pleasant Hill, California, city clerk, decided to go out with a bang, not a whimper, after she was accused of frittering away time tweeting during City Council meetings instead of keeping minutes. Lehmkuhl resigned and sent a vitriolic email wishing the City Council luck in hiring a “schmuck” to replace her in what she calls an awful job.

Lehmkuhl’s Monday email to Mayor Tim Flaherty announcing her resignation read:

This has been an atrocious, incredibly depressing and mind-numbingly inane experience I would not wish on anyone. I wish the city the best of luck in finding some schmuck eager to transcribe every last misogynistic joke, self-indulgent anecdote and pathetic pandering attempt by council, and every tinfoil hat conspiracy theory, racist aside, and NIMBY asshattery from the lovely council meeting frequent flyers, without which, surely our democracy could not flourish.

City officials stated that their recall of Lehmkul was triggered by the absence of minutes from the meetings for up to a year. She later handed over some of the minutes, but not all of the meetings were thoroughly covered. Her tweets during council meetings included personal observations.

Subsequent to her leaving the City Council, Lehmkuhl started working in Washington, D.C., with Working America, a division of the AFL-CIO that represents non-union workers.
