Deputy Arrested for Allegedly Firing Gun Near Kids

On May 16, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Sung Jin Pak was arrested “on suspicion of discharging a firearm with gross negligence” in October, after he was allegedly pranked by a group of kids.

The arrest was tied to a “misdemeanor weapons charge” in a “‘Ding Dong Ditch’ incident in Greenleaf Court.”

According to The Santa Clarita Valley Central, “Pak [had] been suspended with pay for the past six months” while an investigation into accusations against him were investigated.

Following the investigation, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) spokeswoman Nicole Nishida said: “[Pak’s] arrest stems from an incident that happened October 12.” Pak “is scheduled to appear in Newhall Municipal Court July 16.”

LASD spokesman Steven Whitmore said the shooting allegedly took place while “juveniles were playing a prank called ding dong ditch, where they ring the doorbell and run away.” When they rang Pak’s doorbell he gave chase and allegedly fired a shot into the air.
