Garcetti Ready to Hear de Blasio Sing After Kings Win Stanley Cup

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is ready to collect on his bet with New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and hear him sing Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” on Jimmy Kimmel Live following Friday night’s Stanley Cup victory by the L.A. Kings.

Garcetti had challenged de Blasio to the bet this month. If the L.A. Kings lost, Garcetti would have to sing “New York, New York” on Kimmel’s show and provide the audience with hot dogs from Pink’s. Since that wasn’t the case Friday night, de Blasio will be singing the jaunty L.A. anthem on Jimmy Kimmel and providing the audience with hot dogs from Gray’s Papaya.

According to the Los Angeles Times, “Garcetti said Friday that both mayors would appear on an upcoming episode of the show so he can collect on his winnings.”

“Our Kings of the ice were once considered underdogs,” Garcetti said, according to the Times. “But with two Stanley Cup wins in three years, they have proved they are Kings of the game.”

Kings Defenseman Alec Martinez hammered a rebound shot home during an intense double overtime for the win. The game lasted for four hours.
