Kids Get Two Bathroom Passes A YEAR at SD Elementary School

Some of the kids and parents at San Diego’s Loma Portal Elementary School are speaking out about a harmful bathroom policy that is leaving some of the kids sick according to ABC10 News.

Instead of using good old-fashioned discernment, parents say teachers at the San Diego elementary school are using the schools restrictive and reward based methods of determining bathroom privileges.

The report includes commentary from two of the kids who say they only get two bathroom passes a year and after that they are supposed to just hold it. The two also said there is a way to earn more passes through a school reward system. If the child still has no pass and need to go to the restroom they can reportedly “be excluded from activities or receive detention.”

A Seattle Children’s Hospital guide to children’s bathroom habits points to the importance of children not delaying bathroom trips as this can lead to infections such as Urinary Tract Infections.

One of the parents involved is leading the charge to get the policies changed reported 10 News.

Upon request for information on the issue, 10 News received the following response from the San Diego Unified School District, “The parent concerns regarding the Loma Portal restroom procedures have been forwarded to the district’s Quality Assurance Office. That office is still investigating the issue so no details or comments can be provided by the district.”
