In LA, Obama Blames His Supporters for His Failures

“What happened is y’all didn’t vote. And that’s when all kinds of … stuff happened,” said President Barack Obama to a crowd of his Democratic donors in Los Angeles. This is not the first time the president has lashed out at his Democratic constituents.

Obama’s remarks in LA on Wednesday, mirrored statements he made in April of this year when he referred to the lack of voter turnout from Democrats during midterm elections as a “congenital disease.” To read more, click here. Three months ago, to a crowd in New York, he said, “We have a congenital disease, which is: during midterms our voters don’t show up. That’s what it comes down to.”

The lack of voting he was referring to in his statements to the crowd, which gathered in the upper-echelon neighborhood of California’s Hancock Park, is the same voting that he says made Republican Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) Speaker of the House and has him missing the days when Democrat Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) had occupied that same post. “Lo and behold we’re surprised when John Boehner is speaker of the House! What happened to Nancy Pelosi?” the president lamented to the crowd, reports the Los Angeles Times. Again, he placed the blame of that loss on the Democrats and their lack of involvement during midterm elections.

He urged those gathered that it was not just about getting him elected but that they needed to make his last two years in office count by being more involved, notes the Times. “we’ve got to step it up in the midterms. Not when it’s easy, not when it’s sexy, not when there’s hope posters…”

According to the Times, the president was introduced by the event’s co-host Kerri Washington, star of the TV series “Scandal” and during his talk went on to blast Republicans whom he accused of circulating cynicism with their focus on scandals: “No offense, Scandal’s a great show but it’s not something we necessarily want to be living out day in and day out,” Obama said.

The president drove forth what the Times delicately described as “a tough-love talk” as he said, “I have got to have a Congress that has some sense and is willing to work and is willing to compromise and is focused on the American people. we don’t have that right now.”
