California 'Animal Lover' Receives Citation After Getting Kicked in Face by Giraffe

A self-proclaimed “animal lover” from California received a less-than-affectionate reception from a giraffe that kicked her in the face after she climbed over a barrier and into the animal’s enclosure at a Wisconsin Zoo. She also received a citation on suspicion of harassment of zoo animals.

“I don’t ‘harass’ zoo animals. I’m an animal lover,” said Amanda Hall, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Hall, 24, was reportedly able to climb over the first of two fences and proceeded to feed the 2-year-old, 12-foot giraffe named Wally some grass. Wally licked Hall, in an apparent display of gratitude, then turned around and delivered a swift kick to her face.

Hall received at least 10 stitches to her lower lip as a result of the kick as well as a citation carrying a $686 fine with it from Madison, Wisconsin police, notes the Times.

“I was not trying to harm the giraffe. I just don’t think it’s fair. Igot hit in the face by a giraffe. I had to deal with all that. That wasa lot of pain to deal with already.  I don’t need a fine and this on myrecord,” Hall complained.

She told the Times that while she didn’t think her actions at the time to be “a big deal,” she would not be conducting a repeat of such actions in the future. “Obviously I won’t do it again.”
