Oakland Protests Against Israeli Ship Continue for 2nd Day

KTVU-2 TV in Oakland reports that protesters gathered at the Port of Oakland on Monday night for a second time to protest the arrival of an Israeli ship owned by Zim shipping. Demonstrators blocked workers from offloading the ship.

There were only three or four dozen protesters, and roughly the same amount of police officers. Because there was only 15-minute parking in the area, the police warned the protesters that after 15 minutes, their cars would be cited or towed.

Israeli officials said the protests were misguided. Israeli consul general Andy David told KTVU-2, “What we see is a hate-fest toward a symbol. So who suffers? It will be Americans; it will be the people of Oakland; the people of California; they are the ones who are going to suffer from this protest.”

The protesters said they would return for another day of demonstrations Tuesday.
