Dreamer Back at Harvard After Deporting Himself and Then Returning

An illegal alien attending Harvard University as a student was allowed back into the United States after having gone temporarily back to Mexico, effectively deporting himself.

Brought into the USA illegally when he was a toddler by his parents who were Mexican nationals, Dario Guerrero recently returned to Mexico with his mother to seek alternative cancer treatment for her. In August, Guerrero’s mother died while they were there. As a last wish before she passed away, the mother requested that her ashes be brought back to her home in Long Beach, CA.

Although authorities initially denied his re-entry, on Tuesday Guerrero crossed the border in San Ysidro with his mother’s ashes to the United States after being granted a humanitarian visa. “I understood the consequences. Thankfully, everything was able to be worked out within a few months. It could have taken a lot longer,” Guerrero said.

CBS Los Angeles reported that Guerrero had been living in the United States and able to attend Harvard because of the protection conferred on him under the Dream Act. Guerrero is attending Harvard on a full scholarship.
