A man who recently traveled to Africa was evaluated Friday at San Diego’s Alvarado Hospital as a precaution against potential Ebola exposure.
An infection control doctor at Alvarado reportedly determined that the man was not at risk. He did not display any Ebola symptoms and had not traveled to any of the regions in West Africa that have been deemed at risk, a Alvarado representative told ABC 10 News.
Alvarado Hospital released the following statement to Breitbart News:
Alvarado Hospital, along with all San Diego hospitals, follows the guidelines and screening tools set up by the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency’s epidemiology department. The patient was thoroughly screened following HHS guidelines and was not found to meet any criteria for Ebola. All cases even slightly suspect are reported to the county and we refer you to them for any further questions about screening criteria. Due to HIPAA laws, we cannot comment any further on this particular patient.
Dr. Michael Butera, Infectious Disease Physician and chairman of the Infection Control Department at Alvarado Hospital, was quoted by NBC 7 in October regarding Ebola preparedness in San Diego County, “Every acute care hospital is prepared to deal with contagious, infectious pathogens.” According to Butera, Alvarado has negative pressurized and other pressurized rooms for droplet and contact precaution. Butera commented on the high level of preparedness for Ebola in hospitals throughout San Diego County.
