Principal Attacked With Box Cutter in Elementary School

An elementary school principal in California was slashed on his face with a box cutter on Thursday by two men who approached him during school hours asking about a student.

The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. when two men, described as being between 20 and 40-years-old, walked up to Gustine Elementary School and struck up a conversation with Principal Ismael Munoz, according to NBC News affiliate KCRA

One of the men distracted Munoz while the other removed an item described as a box cutter from his pocket and proceeded to slash Munoz’s left cheek leaving a 4-inch laceration. His injuries were deemed non life-threatening.

It was later discovered the student was not registered at the school, KCRA notes.

While the motive for the attack was unclear, investigators reportedly said they believed the unidentified men were targeting school staff and not students.

The school was reportedly placed on a brief lockdown in light of extra security precautions surrounding the incident.
