The Santa Ann Police department reports that on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, 40 homes received plastic bags containing fliers calling King a “communist pervert” and business cards listing contact information for the KKK’s hotline and Web address. The bags also contained a rock and some candy.

The fliers were deposited between 8 p.m. Sunday and 5:30 a.m. Monday. KTLA reported that the business card had a North Carolina address and phone number. It stated, in part, “racial purity is America’s security,” and “join today for your God, family, race and nation. White power.”

Police spokesman Cpl. Anthony Bertagna told the Los Angeles Times that his department views the fliers as a “hate incident,” adding that the act itself was not criminal. He said, “There’s no threats made. It’s just propaganda for their beliefs.”

A package also supposedly from the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan was delivered in July to residents in the city of Orange. Santa Ana police, the Orange Police Department and the FBI are investigating the incident.
