Illegal Alien Student Center Serves ‘Special Needs’ at CSU Long Beach

Monday morning marked the grand opening of a fourth California State University campus illegal alien student center at CSU Long Beach under the heading, “Dream Success Center.”

During a midday open house, President Jane Close Conoley and Vice President of Student Affairs Carmen Taylor officially opened the new “undocumented student” student assistance and gathering place.

In an official statement, CSULB said: “It is estimated there are some 650 AB540 and/or undocumented students at CSULB.” The Dream Success Center will reportedly cater to the “special needs” of these students. Assistance offered will include referrals to financial assistance, a place for students to connect with one another, computers, career development and other academic services according to a CSULB release.

Associated Students, Inc. passed a resolution to “support the creation of a resource center for undocumented students” a year ago. Last April, according to CSULB, undocumented student leaders met with the university’s then-Interim President Donald Para and the now current President Jane Close Conoley to “discuss steps to be taken to address undocumented student concerns.”

The center joins similar facilities at Cal State Northridge, Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Los Angeles.
