Sen. John Moorlach (R-Costa Mesa) is facing heat for calling Sacramento’s newly-appointed Mexican Consul General Alejandra Garcia Williams “hot.”

“All I can say, as politely as possible, is Alejandra is hot,” Moorlach said according to the Sacramento Bee. Garcia Williams shook her head and smiled.

Moorlach’s Chief of Staff Tim Clark reportedly said the senator’s comments were taken out of context and that he did not mean what he said in a sexist way, noting that he and Garcia Williams are old friends. Moorlach also praised Garcia Williams for her previous experience as Mexico’s consul general in Orange County as well as for her unique ability to speak Dutch.

In 2013, President Barack Obama said California Attorney General Kamala Harris was “by far the best-looking attorney general in the country,” for which his spokesperson later issued an apology.

The Bee also notes that in 2011, Assemblyman Charles Calderon–brother of state Sen. Ron Calderon (D-Montebello) — was blasted by women’s and legal groups for what were perceived as inappropriate references to California Supreme Court Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye.

Update: Tim Clark spoke with Breitbart News and said Sen. Moorlach is not in “trouble” for his comments, adding that Moorlach has known Garcia Williams for a long time, and was extremely happy to present some background about his friend to his fellow colleagues in the State Senate.
