Mexico Soccer Win Shuts Down OC Intersection

Mexico Gold Cup soccer win celebrants in Santa Ana, California caused police to shut down a portion of a major street in order to protect pedestrians from erratic drivers spinning doughnuts.

Mexico took the Gold Cup win 3-1 over Jamaica on Sunday. It was Mexico’s seventh Gold Cup title, according to ESPNFC.

Santa Ana Police Sgt. David Lima told the Orange County Register that revelers began occupying the area around 9:00 p.m., and that by 9:45 p.m. officers were shutting down the intersection at Bristol Street and McFadden Ave.

Sgt. Lima also told the outlet that the area has become a “hub” for post-Mexico win celebrations. Another tweet from July 2013 indicated that there were similar celebrations back then.
