California Assemblyman Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) is pushing legislation to limit the purchasing ability of law-abiding citizens to one long gun a month.
Handgun purchases in California have been limited to one per month since 1999, and Santiago wants to limit long gun purchases in the same way because of the San Bernardino terror attack. He says his goal is prevent the “stockpiling” of long guns.
Of course, Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik only used two long guns, which is not much of a stockpile. They had a far greater store of homemade bombs. For example, CNBC reported the couple “left behind 12 pipe bombs” in their apartment. And those did not include the bomb they planted at the scene of their attack.
But Courthouse News Service reports that Santiago’s bill–Assembly Bill 1674–takes aim at guns. Santiago “worked with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence to craft [the bill],” and neither group believes the bill “unduly burdens law-abiding Californians” because it still allows them to buy up to 12 guns a year.
On November 16–approximately two weeks before the San Bernardino terror attack–Breitbart News reported:
[There is concern] that a firearm-relate[d] terror attack on U.S. soil would be seized as an impetus for more gun control. The fact that Democrats and their allies in the gun control movement have proved impervious to evidence only solidifies the concern that a terrorist with an AR-15, AK-15, or semiautomatic handgun, would lead to calls to “clamp down” on gun sales in our country.
