On January 28, a 70-year-old Sanger homeowner with a handgun surprised an alleged burglar who had entered the home to gather valuables and escape undetected.

According to the Fresno Bee, Fresno County sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said “the homeowner had been working in his yard before he tried to enter his home through the front door….The security door was locked, but the man remembered leaving it open. He drew his registered handgun from his pocket and entered through a window.”

Upon entering, the homeowner discovered 54-year-old Enrique Garza. He pointed his gun at Garza, ordered him “to put his hands up, go outside and sit down in the front yard until police arrived.”

Eagle One–the Fresno Sheriff’s helicopter–caught video of how the incident ending with Garza sitting on the ground at gunpoint, while the homeowner waved his arm to flag down arriving officers.

Authorities booked Garza “on a felony burglary charge and a probation violation, as well as a misdemeanor drug possession charge.”

THE Fresno County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the 70-year-old homeowner has maintained a concealed carry permit for 50 years, but this is the first time he has ever had to draw the weapon for self-defense.
