Thousands of people lined the streets of California’s Coronado Island on Friday and stood silently as the hearse carrying the body of fallen Navy SEAL Charles H. Keating IV passed by in funeral procession.

Keating was a Petty Officer First Class who was shot and killed during a May 3 battle with ISIS.

According to 10 News, the members of the crowd were of all ages, and included children from Coronado schools who were released early to attend the funeral procession. “The funeral service was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Coronado,” the report noted, followed by a line of official vehicles in which “a hearse [carried Keating’s body] and a long procession of vehicles wound their way through the city and across the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge.”

The U.S. Navy says Keating will be “posthumously promoted to Chief Petty Officer.”

As Breitbart News noted last week, Keating comes from a family with a long military and political history:

The familiarity of his name is no coincidence, as he was the grandson of businessman Charles Keating Jr., a key figure in the savings & loan crisis of the late eighties. Charlie Keating’s brother William is also a SEAL.

“Charles Jr. rose to prominence in the mid-20th century as a lawyer and businessman who made millions in Phoenix real estate before he was implicated in the $150 billion savings-and-loan crisis that fleeced thousands of depositors with the help of U.S. senators,” CNN recalls. “He always insisted he’d done nothing wrong and served time for fraud, racketeering and conspiracy. The verdicts were later overturned and he pleaded guilty on lesser charges. He died in 2014 at age 90.”

The Keating family has a long history of military service, with Charles Keating Jr. serving as a naval pilot in World War II and his father serving in World War I.
