California Lyft Passenger Saves Driver from Heart Attack

Dr. Nwando Olayiwola of Hercules, California saved the life of a Lyft driver when he suffered a heart attack while driving her home from the airport this week.

ABC-7 Los Angeles reported:

The episode began when she hired a Lyft car home from the airport.

That ride changed in an instant. Olayiwola had been sleeping. The driver opened his window, seemed to be in distress and she recognized the signs — a heart attack.

Olayiwola instantly switched modes from passenger to doctor and told the driver to pull over. “He was moaning, writhing in pain.”

She called 911, then called the driver’s wife. In minutes, the Rodeo-Hercules Fire Department arrived and took 35-year-old Mir Peerzada to the hospital.

The driver is reportedly from Afghanistan and helped U.S. forces as an interpreter before immigrating.

Episodes of life-saving are not rare in the ride-sharing world. More controversially, in 2015, a concealed carry permit holder who happened to be an Uber driver stopped a potential mass shooting in Chicago when he shot the would-be murderer.

As Breitbart News reported at the time:

According to the Chicago Tribune, the driver was watching “a group of people” walk in front of his car on North Milwaukee Avenue just before midnight when 22-year-old Everardo Custodio allegedly “began firing into the crowd.” The Uber driver pulled his own gun and “fired six shots at Custodio,” wounding him in “the shin, thigh, and lower back.”

After that incident, however, Uber banned both passengers and drivers from carrying guns for self-defense, even when legally permitted to do so.
