Howoritz said he believes Savage was targeted for his political beliefs.

Savage hosts Savage Nation and recently published the book Trump’s War: His Battle For America. He was reportedly leaving the restaurant when the unnamed assailant charged him and started yelling “Hey, wiener,” and “Hey, weenie” making fun of Savage’s legal surname.

According to the 415 Media blog, Savage said he turned to the man and told him, “Go away, I don’t know who you are.” The man then reportedly pushed his toy poodle, Teddy, aside and then shoved Savage to the ground. According to the Chronicle, the unknown assailant punched another restaurant customer, who intervened, in the face.

Officers from the Tiburon Police Department reportedly arrived at Servino around 8:25 p.m. on a report of a fight with no weapons involved. According to several media reports, both men placed each other under citizens’ arrest.

“He has lied and said I pushed him. That is absurd,” Savage reportedly told 415 Media. “Both of my hands were holding onto things.” Authorities are reportedly looking for video footage that may have captured the exchange.

Horowitz said he is seeking felony charges against the man and intends to investigate the incident as a hate crime because of Savage’s political views.

Savage’s radio show airs in the Bay Area on KSFO-AM from noon to 3 p.m. on weekdays. His program receives up to 10 million listeners per week.
