Issa Won’t Say Yes or No on Health Care Bill Yet

San Diego’s Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) is not letting on how he will vote on the House Republican leadership’s new health care reform bill, telling reporters that he remains undecided.

Issa told reporters on Capitol Hill Tuesday that his position on the new legislation was “none of your business,” according to reporter Cristina Marcos. Reporter Matt Fuller replied to Marcos’ tweet, “Neat that a public servant believes he can keep his positions secret unless forced to vote. Democracy!” and Issa replied, “How dare Representatives want to actually read bills and review their impact before taking a position! Crazy!”

The congressman told reporter Scott Wong that he is still undecided, and Issa retweeted Wong’s tweet that said as much.

In another reply tweet on Monday, Issa posted that he was “undecided and reviewing the changes and impact on #CA49“:

In yet another tweet, Issa encouraged those concerned with his position on the health care bill to call his office at 202-225-3906.

An April 28 statement from Issa’s twitter account mentioned Obamacare and tort reform:

In the 2016 general election, Issa narrowly beat Obama-backed Democrat challenger Doug Applegate, 50.3 percent to 49.7 percent. In February, dueling protests were held outside Issa’s Vista, California district office. Some rallied for the administration’s health care agenda; others protested against the president and Issa, according to local Fox5 News. Issa came out of his office and addressed the demonstrators that day.

A self-identified new challenger to Issa, Mike Levin, tweeted a photo with protesters that he said were in front of Issa’s district office this past Tuesday. While Levin claimed more than 380 showed up, the local San Diego Union-Tribune reported just over 100 protesters. Many signs shown in the local report spoke to the health care debate; others mocked the President or Issa, while one went so far as to declare, “Deport Melania, Impeach Trump.”
