Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti made a two-day visit to Iowa late last week further solidifying rumors that he will likely run for president in 2020.

As the Los Angeles Times put it, “Iowa is to White House hopefuls what Mecca is to religious pilgrims. It holds the first vote of the presidential campaign, precinct-level caucuses that help cull the field and usher a handful of survivors into the contests that follow.”

IWhile in Iowa, Garcetti reportedly met with firefighters and union carpenters, Latino and Asian American activists, attended a gay rights gala, and took a walk through Des Moines’s hipster East Village neighborhood.

He also visited Columbia, South Carolina in February to promote his own “Accelerator for America” project, and he was in Nevada in October for a DNC meeting.

Garcetti, who is serving his second term as mayor, is scheduled to serve as mayor of Los Angeles until 2022.
