Jerry Brown Sending Checks to Poor During 2016 Presidential Primaries

Long-shot presidential candidate Governor Jerry Brown offered to have California tax-payers double the federal Earned Income Tax Credit for many Californians this week. Though the credit is considered by the IRS Inspector General to have an “improper payment rate” of 22 to 26 percent, Brown wants to give away an additional $380 million in state funds to deflect what Breitbart News has reported as the fact that “California might be 7th Largest Economy, but is 1st in Poverty.”

L.A. Minimum Wage to Hit $15 in 2020

On Wednesday, a Los Angeles City Council committee, determined to expedite the process of driving businesses out of state, endorsed a proposal raising the citywide minimum wage from its current $9 an hour to $15 an hour by 2020.

Drought? Pool Construction Soars in California

Despite the drought, Californians built the most backyard swimming pools since 2007 last year–and this year, the pace is outstripping 2014, according to industry tracking firm Construction Monitor. In 2014, over 11,000 residential swimming pools were built or rebuilt; this year’s pace will carry that number over 13,000.

CAIR Targets California Official Over Anti-Islam Facebook Post

An El Monte city official has come under fire for a comment he made about Islam on an article he posted to his personal Facebook page. Now, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), an American Muslim advocacy group with ties to the global Muslim Brotherhood, is calling for his resignation in addition to demanding an apology.

Crowds of activists from both sides of the ferocious illegal immigration debate clashed in a war of words directed at the L.A. County Board of Supervisors as the elected officials voted 3-2 Tuesday to kill the 287(g) program that allows U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) agents inside county jails in order to review inmates for legal status and potential deportation prior to release.

Pendleton Chopper Goes Missing During Nepal Earthquake Relief

A helicopter from U.S. Marines Camp Pendleton was on a rescue mission following the massive and deadly Nepal earthquakes when it lost contact Tuesday. Search efforts continue in hopes the six U.S. Marines and two Nepalese soldiers aboard the UH-1Y Huey are simply unable to communicate in the mountainous region.

Amended Vaccine Bill Skips Committee, Heads to Senate Floor

New amendments may have expedited passage of the controversial SB 277 bill to eliminate California parents’ right to exempt their children from one or more school required vaccinations on the basis of “personal belief.” The bill could see a floor vote as early as Thursday.

The highly respected Colorado State University forecast for the coming season looks for only 7 named tropical storms and only 3 hurricanes, about 40% less than average. Coupled with the expectations of global cooler weather and more precipitation from El Niño, climate change “scientific experts” may need to develop more new models.

Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-CA) inadvertently revealed her plans to run against Attorney General Kamala Harris in a bid for retiring Sen. Barbara Boxer’s (D-CA) seat on Tuesday,then quickly changed course suggesting her campaign “mistakenly” sent an email to her supporters. The announcement was quickly retracted.

L.A. Homeless Numbers Climb 12%

LOS ANGELES — According to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority’s biennial report, the homeless population of the city and county of Los Angeles climbed 12% in the last two years as tents, makeshift dwellings and cars used by the homeless skyrocketed by 85%.

Police: Rape, Sexual Battery at ‘Sun God’ Festival at UC San Diego

The University of California San Diego Police Department reported on Friday that one case of rape and one case of sexual battery had occurred during the university’s Sun God Festival on May 3, according to the UCSD Guardian. That followed Monday’s news of the chairman of UCSD’s Visual Arts Department defending a class in which students were encouraged to take their final in the nude, as reported by local ABC 10.
