Santa Cruz police have nicknamed a man who robbed a bank “Mrs. Doubtfire,” after he donned a wig, carried a purse, and wore navy-blue scrubs with a long-sleeved shirt as he cased one bank and robbed another.

Beverly Hills Ordered to Reduce Water Use by 35%

Under the plan, 135 of the state’s biggest water-using communities–including Beverly Hills, Malibu, and Palos Verdes–will be forced to cut use by 35 percent to comply with Gov. Jerry Brown’s executive order to cut statewide use by 25 percent this year, according to the New York Times.

Carly Fiorina, former Hewlett-Packard CEO and possiuble Republican presidential candidate, recently blasted “liberal environmentalists” who are “willing to sacrifice other people’s lives and livelihoods at the altar of their ideology” during California’s water crisis.” Fiorina’s campaign is specifically targeting Governor Jerry Brown’s difficult political choices in handling the drought–with a possible view to undermining his own potential presidential campaign.

Despite Obamacare, Californians Using ERs More for Non-Emergencies

According to the Los Angeles Times, Californians have actually increased their use of emergency rooms for diagnosis of medical problems rather than using ERs for actual emergencies. That problematic scenario supposedly drove statewide support for Obamacare; overburdened emergency rooms were being used en masse by those without health insurance, thanks to provisions under California law that mandate coverage via emergency room without regard to insurance.

How California Went Dry

Gov. Jerry Brown of California is fired up about nailing his citizens to the wall, should they dare to use more than their allotted amount of water. On Sunday, Brown said that those who did not take shorter showers would be punished with fines of up to $500, in order to cut urban water use 25 percent; now, according to CBS News, water authorities will use “smart meters” to monitor water use and update them for purposes of fines.

“We’re starting to see the behavior here on the dock with the seals a little more aggressive than normally,” said local Erik Kopp after seeing a man hauled off in a stretcher from San Diego’s Mission Bay Channel Sunday afternoon. The man was holding a fish in his hand when a sea lion jumped up and bit the fish and the man’s hand, dragging the man underwater as well.

Banks Raising Sub-Prime Credit Card Limits, Again!

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), which regulates the financial risks posed by the lending activity of American national banks, has officially reported that banks are expanding sub-prime credit by raising borrowing limits for credit card holders. The new concerns follow an OCC report last June that flagged “problematic” recent high-risk corporate takeovers, car loans through auto dealers, and commercial finance lending.
