LAUSD Teacher Sued for Using ‘N-Word’ in Class in Historic Context

Parents and students from Revere Charter Middle School and Magnet Center in Los Angeles have launched a petition to restore a teacher to his job after the 29-year-veteran was suspended by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) for allegedly using racial terms in class. The petition had neared 800 signatures by Monday morning.In addition, the students held a rally on Monday at the school.

Chronicle: Repeal Of Lead Ammo Ban Must Be Decided By Non-hunters

Assemblyman James Gallagher (R-Yuba City) has introduced Assembly Bill 395–a measure intended to repeal the statewide lead ammunition ban signed by Governor Jerry Brown in October 2013. And while the repeal has support in rural areas, the San Francisco Chronicle claims that it will have to win support in California’s large cities if it is to pass.

Some Democrats are desperately searching for an alternative to Hillary Clinton, who still leads the polls but has drawn little enthusiasm from the media and the party’s “progressive activists.” Dennis Lennox, an opinion columnist for the Central Michigan Morning Sun, says that California Gov. Mayim Bialik Defends UCLA from Antisemitism Charges

Responding to a column on kveller.com by author Alina Adams, in which Adams asserted UCLA was among universities that were antisemitic, actress Mayim Bialik, a three-time Emmy nominee for her role in The Big Bang Theory, defended her alma mater, from which she received a Ph.D in neuroscience, insisting in the Times of Israel that she “had to speak up.”

Mercedes Challenges Tesla with Plug-in at Half the Cost

Competition is about to crank up in the emerging plug-in luxury vehicle sector, with Mercedes debuting its C350e plug-in hybrid-electric sedan this September at about half the cost of Tesla Model S sedan. Mercedes will also become the first car company to deliver diesel powered full-size sedans and SUVs at discounts to gasoline equivalents.

Veto-Proof Majority of House Sends Obama Letter on Iran

367 members of the U.S. House of Representatives have sent President Barack Obama a letter expressing concern about the ongoing negotiations with Iran towards a nuclear deal that would keep its nuclear infrastructure in place, as the regime continues to hide information about its nuclear program from international inspectors. Unlike a recent letter sent by 47 Senators to the Iranian leadership, this letter is bipartisan, and more diplomatic–but no less opposed to a “bad deal.”

ACLU Recruiting Deported Illegal Aliens for ‘Return-and-Sue’

American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) representatives reportedly traveled to Mexicali Friday on the hunt for foreign nationals who have previously been deported or removed from the United States in order to add them to a list of plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit against two U.S. federal government agencies.

Brown Blasts Republicans on Climate–but Silent on His Oil Fortune

Potential Democratic Presidential candidate Gov. Jerry Brown told NBC News’ Meet the Press on Sunday that a letter that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) sent to all 50 governors urging them to block or ignore the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed carbon pollution regulations was “a disgrace.” Brown is somewhat of a hypocrite on the issue, because his family’s wealth reportedly comes from control of two huge imported oil trading firm.
