Pro-Life Banners Removed from USC; ‘Approved in Error’

A series of pro-life banners of images of 11-week-old fetuses in the womb saw mere hours of daylight at the University of Southern California on Tuesday prior to being removed by the same university organization that had initially approved them. The light poles instead featured hand-written signs posted on them reading, “Women deserve the right to choose.”

Bill Ending ‘Personal Belief’ Vaccine Exemptions Advances in California Senate

After a brief delay and second attempt, Senate Bill 277 (SB 277), which would require children in California to be vaccinated if they wish to enter a school setting, passed in the Golden State’s Senate Education Committee on Wednesday. The bill would end vaccine exemptions based on personal or religious belief. Only exemptions accompanied by a medical note would be granted.

Catholic Relief Services VP Living in Same-Sex Marriage

Michael Hichborn, president of Lepanto Institute – which has in the past exposed CRS policy of programs supporting contraception – said, “This vice president is flouting Catholic moral teaching by living in a homosexual union and engaging in homosexual activism online. Personnel is policy, so it’s a fair question to ask how his lifestyle and activism have influenced policy at CRS.”

Fresno Unified Dropped Sex Ed, May Reinstate It

The Fresno Unified School District, the nation’s fourth-largest, with roughly 73,000 students, has no comprehensive sex education program in place after dropping an earlier, controversial program. In response, Fresno Barrios Unidos, a teen and parent health organization, and the ACLU of Northern California have expressed their desire to implement a sex education program. In December 2013 they held a gathering calling for the district to improve its sex education curriculum.

Catholic Donors Attack S.F. Archbishop Cordileone

On Thursday, proving that the attractions of an increasingly secular society seem more important than the tenets of traditional religion, over 100 prominent Roman Catholic donors and church members wrote an open letter to the Pope that ran as a full-page ad in the San Francisco Chronicle condemning staunch traditionalist San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone for fostering “an atmosphere of division and intolerance,” and calling on Pope Francis to replace him.
