TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israeli police say a Palestinian was shot and wounded after attempting to ram his car into troops at a West Bank checkpoint. The man was then arrested.

Police spokeswoman Luba Samri says the assailant sped toward soldiers and police at the Qalandiya checkpoint north of Jerusalem. She says he got out of his car and started to charge the Israeli troops.

Samri says the attacker — a man in his 30s from the West Bank village Turmus Aya — was wounded in the leg and arrested. No Israelis were hurt.

Friday’s attack is the latest in near-daily Palestinian shootings, stabbings and other attacks that have killed 19 Israelis since mid-September. At least 116 Palestinians have died by Israeli fire, including 79 Israel says were attackers.
