The Daily Mail reports: An American tourist has been arrested in Israel after he apparently spent the night hunting mythical buried treasure in a cave, raising speculation that he was suffering from Jerusalem syndrome.
The 19-year-old man was found inside Zedekiah’s Cave, below the Muslim quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City, after hiding in one of its crevices when it closed for the day.
Overnight, he dug holes in different areas of the cave in an apparent attempt to find centuries-old treasure that, according to legend, has been buried there.
After Friday’s arrest, the teen, who was covered in mud when he was found by workers, was questioned and could not explain why he hid in the cave, Haaretz reported.
