WATCH: Iraqi Civilians Swim Across Euphrates to Escape Islamic State

Dramatic video footage emerged on Friday of hundreds of Iraqi civilians swimming across the Euphrates river near Fallujah in a bid to escape Islamic State fighters.

Residents have been suffering increasingly dire conditions, used as human shields by the remaining Islamic State fighters and deprived of food and clean water for months, the Daily Telegraph reports.
