Israeli Defense Industry Targets Polish Market

Shephard Media reports: Poland’s ambitious programme to modernise its armed forces is one of the biggest in Europe, and with billions of dollars likely to be spent over the coming years it is attracting major players in the defence industry.

Those major players not surprisingly include Israeli-based companies, such as Elbit Systems, Rafael and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), all of which will be attending this year’s MSPO exhibition in Kielce.

They are eyeing several programmes that will likely include the procurement of new air defence systems, sensors, unmanned vehicles, cybersecurity solutions, electronic warfare, and even satellites for reconnaissance and communications.

Elbit Systems, for instance, is a contender for Poland’s Gryf programme, an effort aimed at procuring a medium-range tactical UAS. The company is putting forward its Hermes 450 platform that will compete against a similar offering from Thales, which is hedging its bet with its Watchkeeper platform.

One of Elbit Systems’ Israeli competitors is IAI, which has six divisions that can offer a wide spectrum of solutions to meet Poland’s growing defence requirements, according to the company.

Israel Sharon, IAI marketing manager for Poland, told Shephard that Israel’s defence strategy has similarities with Poland.
