Gunshots have been heard in the Turkey capital, Ankara, according to State broadcaster Haber Turk. Early reports indicate one person is wounded following an attack on the Israeli embassy.

Reports from various media sources on the scene are still unclear.

The NTV and CNN-Turk television channels reporte that two people tried to enter the well-defended embassy but one was “neutralised”, without specifying if the person had been wounded or killed. Employees of the embassy took refuge in a shelter, it added.

Local media says police had been called after two suspects were reported at the scene. Watch video below:

Authorities are believed to be investigating links to Islamist terrorism after police told Reuters the man was shouting “Allahu Akbar”, meaning “God is Great” in Arabic, during the incident.

A spokesperson for the Israeli embassy in London confirmed an attempted attack but said the assailant was prevented from entering the embassy building in Ankara.
