The “dirty war” between soccer clubs in Saudi Arabia, known across the Arab world for its unabashed ferocity, hit a new low when a rumor associating the Arab porn star Maya Khalifa with the Alnasser FC club went viral.

A hashtag, #Maya_Khalifa_buys_Alnasser, was launched, probably by a fan of a rival club, and became one of the most popular on Twitter, leading to an angry backlash.

“There are some who are unfamiliar with this sl*t and are prompted to Google her name,” Omar wrote. “Well done for the sinful hashtag, may you burn in hell.”

Yazid sent a reassuring message: “Don’t worry, Omar, everybody knows her.”

“Hardly surprising – birds of a feather flock together,” Faisal wrote. “They’re all wh*res anyway.”

Many blamed the fans of rival club Elhilal FC, but Woolf tweeted: “It wasn’t an Elhilal fan who launched the hashtag. It’s a Shi’ite agent who wants to turn us against each other. He made you utter the name of that sl*t.”

Honest Man took a jab at Alnasser fans, saying they rooted for a Korean team that played against them: “What can you expect from fans who turned on their own team and rooted for their Korean rival?”

An Elhilal fan tweeted that just like many watch Khalifa’s movies secretly, “You can expect her to tell the spectators to watch quietly after she completes the acquisition.”

Sara wrote a derogatory tweet: “I’m shocked! I never thought Elhilal fans know who Maya Khalifa is, because women normally don’t.”

Legend was equally sarcastic: “It’s unclear who founded the team, how many championships they won, it’s a team whose history is dark, what are you looking for?”
