The Jerusalem Post reports: The IDF spotted a man crossing over from Israel into Lebanese territory on Thursday through the area of the upper Galilee in northern Israel, the army said. The border fence indicated to IDF observers stationed in the area that the crossing took place.
The IDF later said that the man’s family were former members of the South Lebanon Army, which was active during the Lebanese Civil War until it disbanded in 2000. The man had reportedly turned himself in to the Lebanese military and Israeli military sources have said that the IDF has turned to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and asked for its involvement in the case.
The border between Lebanon and Israel has been relatively quiet since the 2006 war between the two countries, but recently two different cases were reported of men crossing over (from Syria) through the country’s north.
