TEL AVIV – A self-proclaimed liberal professor at New York’s New School slammed the college over its decision to hold a panel including virulent anti-Israel activist and “hatemonger” Linda Sarsour on Tuesday night in an event on antisemitism.

“I feel betrayed that Tuesday, the Creative Publishing and Critical Journalism program is sponsoring a panel entitled ‘Anti-Semitism and the Struggle for Justice’ featuring the hatemonger Linda Sarsour,” Prof. Susan Shapiro, who is a human rights activist, wrote in the New York Daily News.

“Sarsour is the left-wing’s new hijab heroine, a Brooklyn-born Palestinian activist who has tweeted ‘nothing is creepier than Zionism,’ and shared a podium praising her friends Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan (a virulent anti-Semite) and Rasmea Odeh, a terrorist who spent 10 years in jail for abetting the killing of two Hebrew University students in 1969,” Shapiro added.

“Imagine what would happen if I tweeted ‘Nothing is creepier than Palestinians,’ proclaimed ‘gays can’t be feminists,’ appeared alongside the KKK’s David Duke and publicly boycotted everything Arab-owned or run,” Shapiro continued. “My bosses and colleagues would call me a racist and I’d probably be fired.”

“Yet trash-talking Jewish Israelis is not only permitted in progressive circles, it’s rewarded. So Sarsour gets embraced by CUNY and now the New School, is named one of Glamour magazine’s women of the year and gets celebrated by (New York City) Mayor (Bill) de Blasio.”

Shapiro noted that “anti-Israel boycotts and bombast clearly mask vitriolic Jew-hatred.”

“Here’s my test: When someone of another religion scapegoats Israel but ignores the hideous crimes against humanity committed by the 1.8 billion people in 50 Muslim-majority countries, that proves racism against Jews,” she wrote, adding the Sarsour and other justice-seeking BDS proponents should consider boycotting Syria or Saudi Arabia instead.
The National President of the Zionist Organization of America, Morton Klein, also took to these pages at Breitbart Jerusalem to express his outrage at the inclusion of Sarsour in the antisemitism lineup.
He noted that Sarsour lacks “any academic or professional expertise in anti-Semitism, except as enablers and perpetrators of anti-Semitism. It is deeply disturbing that a college would give Linda Sarsour and her co-panelist any platform – much less a platform to discuss Jews.”
“Sarsour’s anti-Israel animus is intertwined with her Islamist supremacism,” Klein wrote, adding that “Sarsour called on American Muslims to wage ‘jihad against President Trump; to not assimilate into American society, but to instead act ‘to please Allah and only Allah,’ and ‘to be perpetually outraged every single day.‘”
Sarsour, he wrote, “has shown herself to be partial to bizarre anti-American conspiracy theories.”
“On national television in 2015, Sarsour bizarrely claimed that Muslim ‘kids are being executed’ in the United States,” Klein noted.
“By hosting Sarsour, The New School will be legitimizing Jew-hatred, Muslim supremacism and hostility to genuine fighters for women’s rights,” he concluded.
