British Businessman Found Dead in St Lucia, Reports he was Murdered

The charred remains of British businessman have been discovered on the paradise island of St Lucia. The Daily Mail reports that local sources have claimed Ollie Gobat’s body was found with two bullets in his head.

The 38 year old multi-millionaire and former Surrey County Cricket junior player was found in the wreckage of his Range Rover, in an exclusive resort. Mr Gobat was born in St Lucia but was educated in Britain.

Although local police and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) would not confirm the identity of the man who has been discovered a spokesperson said: “We are aware of reports and are looking into them urgently.”

Also former Olympian Daley Thompson took to twitter to pay tribute to Mr Gobat. The double gold medallist said:

My love&thoughts go out to friends&family of Ollie Gobat.he was a gem& his family must have been so proud of him. RIP my friend. X

Mr Gobat’s family are originally from Chester but now own the £405 a night five star ‘Cap Maison’ hotel on the island. They originally alerted the authorities that he was missing, several hours before the car was discovered.

Although there is yet to be a post-mortem which will look at the cause of death the island is awash with rumours that the car was locked from the outside. Locals have also reported hearing gunshots before seeing flames coming from the car.

A St Lucia police spokeswoman said: “The badly burned body of a man was found in a car in the Cap Estate at the roadside but we have no identity for the victim. The homicide department are investigating the death.

“We can confirm that we are searching for a missing man called Oliver Gobat but we cannot confirm the identity of the dead man because of the state of the body.

“We do not know Mr Gobat’s whereabouts at the moment.”

Ollie Gobat held dual nationality, and his parents are understood to be travelling from Esher in Surrey to St Lucia.
