LONDON, June 5 (Reuters) – London’s tallest building, the Shard, was evacuated on Thursday morning as firefighters investigated smoke coming from the basement of the 87-storey skyscraper, a fire brigade spokesman said.
Sky News reports that initial news says it is “nothing serious”. The original report was made at 10:30am and around 45 firefighters are on the scene.
Keely Foster from the London Fire Brigade said the smoking is now dissipating but until the source is found the building would not be reopened.
“Our fire investigation team are already on the scene as we speak,” she said.
