92-Year-Old Veteran Has Medals Stolen on D-Day Anniversary

British police on Sunday launched an appeal after a rogue caller allegedly stole military medals from the home of a 92-year-old World War II veteran on the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

Police said a man claiming to be from a water company knocked on the door of the house in north London on Friday and asked to be let in to check the water pressure.

The victim noticed that evening that objects in his bedroom had been disturbed and then realised that his 11 service medals had been taken, according to Scotland Yard.

The former soldier served with the Grenadier Guards during the 1940s war, spending most of his time in Italy and North Africa.
