Spanish Police Arrest EIGHT Suspected Jihad Recruiters

MADRID (AP) — Spain’s Interior Ministry says police have arrested eight people suspected of forming a group that recruited jihadist militants to fight in Iraq and Syria.

A statement said the eight were arrested early Monday in Madrid.

It said the group was led by a person who resided in Spain but had previously been jailed in Guantanamo after being arrested in Afghanistan in 2001.

The ministry said the cell recruited fighters for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL.

It gave no immediate details on the nationalities of the arrested.

Spain has arrested several dozen suspected jihadist militants in recent years, especially in its two North African enclaves, Ceuta and Melilla.
