Man Fakes Death to Avoid Trans-Atlantic Wedding

A hapless American groom desperate to avoid walking down the aisle has blown off his West Midlands bride to be by faking his own death, reports Yahoo News

Connecticuter Tucker Blandford impersonated his own father when phoning jilted bride Alex Lanchester, 23 to deliver the news he had been killed in a car-crash.

The two had started a whirlwind romance while Lanchester was studying abroad at the University of Connecticut. Having proposed, his bride-to-be returned to the UK, while Blandford clearly had a change of heart as the August 15th date approached. Instead of facing his own shortcomings and being honest, ‘coward’ Blandford decided to fake his own death.

Unfortunately for the hapless groom, Lanchester later called his home back to commiserate with the man she thought was going to be her father in law, but he wasn’t around to pick up the telephone and continue the deception.

When Lanchester spoke to Tucker’s mother she realised that she had been duped and later said ”He has shattered my trust and I’m not sure I’ll ever be in a relationship again”.

As Blandford had not even told his parents he was still in a relationship with Ms Lanchester it is unclear whether he intended to go through with the marriage at all. Tucker has said “I’m a terrible, awful person. I know I shouldn’t have told her I was dead, but I didn’t know what else to do”.
