Afghan Colonel Claims Asylum After Arriving For NATO Summit

NEWPORT, United Kingdom – The Afghan flag-bearer for the NATO summit in Wales claimed asylum as soon as he arrived at London Heathrow Airport yesterday according to well placed sources in the countries delegation.

Enayatullah Barek was supposed to be accompanying senior Afghan government officials including defence minister Bismilalh Mohammadi during the visit to Britain. But the colonel had other plans and now intends to remain in the UK.

Colonel Barek was Afghanistan’s nominated flag-bearer for the summit, as well as an adviser to Afghan National Army (ANA) Chief of Staff General Sher Mohammad Karimi at the conference in Newport, Wales. Whilst Barek’s actions may appear unpatriotic, this is not the first time a senior ANA officer has claimed asylum whilst on a tour of a foreign country.

Barek’s move is likely to raise yet more concerns about immigration during major events in the UK. As previously reported on Breitbart London a mountain biker from Sierra Leone went missing during the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Mohamed Tholley walked out of the athletes’ village after his team mate was tested for the Ebola virus.

The security situation in Afghanistan remains precarious and large numbers of people are keen to leave because of the widespread violence and poverty.
