An Air France flight carrying 183 passengers has been grounded in Madrid after a man onboard began to develop flu-like symptoms mid-flight, and said he had recently flown to Europe from Nigeria, reports indicate.
Spanish newspaper El Mundo reports the unidentified male had “stopped over” at Paris after taking a flight from Lagos, the Nigerian capital and began shivering while flying to Spain. Following the pre-established protocol, upon landing flight AF1300 was confined to a quarantined part of Madrid airport and the man was inspected by a doctor onboard.
He has now been transferred to King Carlos III airport and the aircraft will be decomtaminated before being put back into service, probably later this week.
According to the Spanish source, although other passengers have been allowed to disembark they have not been allowed to take their luggage, as that too needs decontamination.
Although the patient had “fever” and “tremors”, it has also been reported he did not have a temperature, which could indicate this suspected case of Ebola may be dismissed after further tests, the results of which may be expected tomorrow.
