Stand-Up Comedian Attacks BBC's 'Cheap', 'Moronic' and 'Boring' Anti-UKIP Jibes

Stand-up comedian Andrew Lawrence has launched an attack on “political” comics who are “cracking cheap and easy gags” against UKIP. He took to Facebook to claim comedians on BBC shows like ‘Mock The Week’ were smug and overpaid.

The ‘Live At The Apollo’ star claimed “aging, balding, fat men” were guilty of “liberal back-slapping” and had contributed to the “ever-creeping militant political correctness of the BBC”. Laurence’s comments were shared nearly 200 times on the social media site, and solicited a huge number of comments.

Dara Ó Briain who presents ‘Mock The Week’ replied to Laurence on Twitter saying: “Hey Andrew, sorry I’m so aging, bald and fat, but as an an immigrant I’ll retain my disdain for anti-immigrant politics.”

In his very long Facebook status update Mr Lawrence said: “There is a deeply ingrained militant liberal politics at every level of the BBC, despite the fact that it’s tax-payer funded and supposed to be neutral. It’s a biased organisation and the only sorts of political comedians that are welcome within its corridors are those that reflect it’s values.

“Essentially when we’re watching these ‘political’ comedians cracking their piss-poor UKIP gags on the BBC, I think we need to be aware they are neither engaged nor passionate about their subject- but money-grubbing charlatans, toadying up to the militant liberals that pay their wages, mirroring their own beliefs back at them in an act of false flattery so that they’ll feel smug and validated and keep them on the BBC tax-payer funded gravy-train.

“Can’t help but notice increasingly, a lot ‘political’ comedians cracking cheap and easy gags about UKIP, to the extent that it’s got hack, boring and lazy very quickly.”

He also claimed the Clacton by-election proved UKIP enjoys genuine support, whereas the established party’s had left a variety of public services in a “dysfunctional” state. “The reason UKIP have resonated with voters is because all the other parties are too spineless to tackle the issue of immigration,” he said.

Lawrence said he is not a UKIP supporter but does not disrespect those who are.
