Ed Miliband’s plan to abolish non-dom status and force British nationals to pay UK tax on earnings from overseas has been left in ruins after a video emerged of Ed Balls rubbishing the policy. The video was filmed earlier this year by BBC Radio Leeds.

The interviewer asked Balls his views on abolition of non-dom status and the shadow chancellor said the policy risked losing the country money. But today Ed Miliband made this announcement:

The video from BBC Radio Leeds is below:

George Osborne said: “This is a complete shambles from Ed Miliband. He has announced a policy on non-doms that has already completely unravelled. Ed Balls has admitted that abolishing non-dom status will cost Britain money; when you look at the small print of Labour’s policy,it turns out that the headline is completely misleading and the majority of non-doms are not affected at all. It is a classic example of the confusion and the economic chaos you get with Ed Miliband.

He continued: “Today’s gaffe from Labour illustrates the stark choice at this election: between the chaos and incompetence of Ed Miliband, and the Conservatives with our long term economic plan that is working and building a stronger economy and a more secure Britain.”
